Ashton Daniels returns after targeting hit, throws tying TD to Desirrio Riles at Miami
Back after a first-quarter scare, Daniels hit tight end Desirrio Riles on a 23-yard screen for Riles' first FSU touchdown, tying No. 3 Miami 7-7 early in the second quarter.

Ashton Daniels was back at quarterback a few minutes after leaving with a targeting hit, and he got Florida State even. His 23-yard screen pass to tight end Desirrio Riles tied No. 3 Miami 7-7 with 13:52 left in the second quarter, per ESPN. It was still 7-7 at 13:52 in the 2nd when this story was published.
The return
Daniels went back in when FSU took over at its own 47 late in the first quarter, Noles247's John Evans reported, and NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis confirmed he had returned. "Good to see Ashton Daniels back on the field after the targeting," the Osceola's Bob Ferrante posted at the end of the quarter.
The touchdown drive
FSU went 53 yards in seven plays and 3:01, Noles247 reported. Daniels ran for 10 yards to the Miami 41, and the Seminoles survived an illegal snap and a false start. A face mask penalty on Miami tacked 15 yards onto an 11-yard completion to Quintrevion Wisner, setting up first down at the Miami 23, according to ESPN's play-by-play. On the next snap, Norvell called a screen for Riles against a Miami blitz, Evans noted, and Riles took it 23 yards for his first touchdown at FSU, per Lewis. It made up for an earlier drop. Gabe Panikowski's extra point tied it.
The goal-line stop
FSU's previous drive came up empty. With Kevin Sperry at quarterback, FSU had a first down at the Miami 11, but on fourth-and-2 Ousmane Kromah was stopped at the Miami 2 with 3:25 left in the first quarter, per ESPN. It was the second straight game FSU went for it on fourth down inside the 5, Lewis noted, and it turned the ball over there again. Riles was late pulling on the play, per Evans.
FSU outgained Miami in the first quarter despite trailing 7-0, Tomahawk Nation's Curt Weiler noted.
