Florida State split a pair of six-inning fall-ball exhibitions with North Florida on Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium, winning the opener and dropping the second game 7-2, Noles247 reported. Coming a day after the sweep of Jacksonville, that gave FSU three wins in four games on the opening weekend of fall ball, per Warchant.

At the plate

Freshman outfielder Genson Veras had two hits, two RBI and a home run, per seminoles.com, and FSU Baseball posted the blast early in the afternoon. He also made a diving catch on a sinking liner to strand a runner in the opener, Noles247 noted. Senior outfielder Brody DeLamielleure went 3-for-4 on the day, junior catcher Coy Clements drove in two runs, and three more Seminoles had multi-hit days.

On the mound

Cade O'Leary started the first game and allowed only an unearned run in two innings with three strikeouts. Senior lefty Payton Manca followed with two hitless, scoreless innings, and junior righty Jordan Martinez closed it with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts, stranding two runners in the fifth.

The second game got away early, when North Florida scored five runs (two earned) in the second inning off starter Isaiah Shayter. Emery Dawkins struck out four in two innings of relief with his fastball at 94-96 mph, Noles247 reported. Then the freshmen closed it out with back-to-back no-hit innings. Right-hander Donovan Thiery threw a perfect frame with his fastball at 96-99 mph and got his strikeout on an 82 mph curveball, and lefty Spencer Krasner worked around a walk in the sixth and struck out two.
