FSU stuffed on fourth-and-3 at Miami 5, trails No. 3 Miami 14-7

Florida State drove to the Miami 5-yard line late in the second quarter but came away empty, as Ousmane Kromah was stopped for no gain on fourth-and-3 with 3:54 left in the half, per ESPN's play-by-play. No. 3 Miami kept its 14-7 lead and took over at its own 5.

As of 8:21 PM ET Saturday: Miami 14, FSU 7, 3:00 - 2nd Quarter. In progress; we will post the final.

How the drive stalled

The Seminoles started at their own 35 after Miami's kickoff went out of bounds with 8:19 left in the half, right after the Hurricanes went up 14-7. Running no-huddle, Ashton Daniels converted a third-and-8 with a 10-yard pass to C. Loftin, then hit J. Lopez deep down the right side for 39 yards on another third-and-8 to set FSU up first-and-10 at the Miami 12, according to ESPN.

That's where it bogged down. Daniels ran for 4 to the 8. Kromah went for 2 to the 6, then 1 to the 5. On fourth-and-3, FSU kept it on the ground and handed it to Kromah to the right, and Miami's M. Toure stopped him for no gain. Toure had also made the tackle on Kromah's 2-yard run on the 6.

All told, FSU ran nine plays for 60 yards over 4:23 and got no points. The last four snaps, all inside the 12, were runs that gained 7 yards combined. Tomahawk Nation posted that "FSU turns the ball over on downs, with Miami taking over at its own five-yard line."

Why it stings

A touchdown would have tied the game going into the final four minutes of the half. Instead Miami has the ball and the 7-point lead. Daniels is back in the game after leaving with a targeting hit earlier in the first half (our story). Live updates are on our live blog.
