Norvell 'very proud' of FSU after 2OT loss at Miami, disputes final calls: 'Go watch the film'

Mike Norvell said he was "very proud" of FSU after the 43-35 2OT loss at No. 3 Miami, and disputed the late holding call and the final ruling.

Mike Norvell said he was "very proud" of Florida State after Saturday night's 43-35 double-overtime loss at No. 3 Miami, and he made clear he disagreed with the two calls that decided the final possession.

Norvell said he was "very proud" of his players for the way they competed at Hard Rock Stadium, and that it was "sick" for the game to end the way it ended, per Warchant.

The calls

Trailing 43-35 in the second overtime, FSU needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion. On fourth-and-21, Ashton Daniels hit Micahi Danzy for a 36-yard touchdown, but holding on offensive lineman Xavier Chaplin wiped it out, per ESPN's play-by-play and Logan B. Robinson. On the next snap, Daniels' pass into the end zone was ruled intercepted by Miami's Bryce Fitzgerald for a touchback. ESPN lists the call as upheld after review, and Tomahawk Nation reported the ruling stood.

Norvell sees both plays differently. He said he thought that final pass, to Robinson, should have been a touchdown because of simultaneous possession, and on the holding call the play before, he said: "Go watch the film," per Warchant.

Norvell also said this is the second straight year FSU has lost a game on a late call with this officiating crew, Warchant reported. Warchant added that it was the same crew that handled the FSU-Stanford game last season.

The Tallahassee Democrat's Corey Clark called both the Robinson non-catch and the holding call "VERY dubious," while noting that FSU "still would have had to get a 2-point conversion just to tie," in a post on X.
